Dear CatThe best tweeters that I have ever heard is a plasma tweeter. It is not 3 x 3, but man they are 1000 times better than the previous best ribbon tweeters found in expensive Maggies.Have you seen or heard one?Cheers...
Well, the Cogent (Steve Schell and Rich Drysdale) boys are building just such a beast: field coil magnet, (possible) permendur polepieces for >2T, Fs 70Hz, throat - dunno, but at least 3" dia, reduced compression ratio relative t...

I know, I know, I know…
Any person who in one way or other practices horn-loading loudspeakers has a wet dream about bass horns. Here and there people built them. Here and there you can hear the assuring and overconfident statements like: “the...
so a few things... one, there is a pair of Goto 370 on eBay and pictures of insides... the newer ones are made the same, but it seems that the execution has gotten a better/cleaner compared to these.. my diaphragms look...

I still remember proposed solution for symetrical TAD 1201 horn loaded midbass sections. Was it to free listener from sweet spot low seat position ? I could imagine that that midbass horn performing up to 1000Hz sitting low on the floor would impair&...

In reply to my post:
The epoxy carbon-kevlar and glass fibers staffed with damping? I wonder how more fun would be if they staff these hollow horns with sand, I would…. I had once an idea to have a very soft sand horn usi...

Considering the conclusions of my recent experiences that I described in the following thread:
http://www.GoodSoundClub.com/TreeItem.aspx?PostID=6876
I would like to share some of my observation that the people who would go multi-way horns might fi...

I tend to agree with rowuk. The WE horns are great to load the WE drivers and
if the drivers are good, like 594A for instance then the result might be truly
great (of one do not know anything better). However, the greatness of the result is good ON...

Thank you for the lesson in metalurgy, Jessie (seriously). Actually I have no reason to believe that the bronze horn in question rings "like a bell" "when struck" in the same way a real bell rings when struck, so that does seem to put ...
Sure, there is a LOT of wrong with those horn but still people are trying something, poorly but still trying…
You say there is a lot wrong here, but the fundamental setup is actually rather similar to the Macondos it...
….. sit back and conclude that, yes, damn it, a pair of good straight Mid-Bass horns is exactly what you need. My reasons are of course somewhat selfish... as I won't like being alone in needing a non-digital delay solutio...

Alex,
the links at the site that Adrian pointed of are way out of date. Look at the “links” section of my site for correct location of Thomas Dunker site. You might also search within this site for Thomas Dunker:

I wanted to ask your opinion on wide dispersion horns, I am thinking particularly of the ( maple ) horns used in the TAD Exclusives ,early Westlakes etc, mostly studio monitor designs. I can see why a compact ,wide dispersion horn would be attra...

Romy thanks very much for taking the time to reply, presumably the design originates form PA design, literally enabling as many people as possible to hear the announcement, looking at the 'Everest' in Munich, the mid range 'horn' appears to be ...

Interesting idea indeed and very interesting crossover points. Denmark is generally is very advance country in terms of audio.
The Roundabout people said very little, is anything about their horns. However the is one subject that I do not like in th...

The more msaudio trying to “criticizes” my projects and expose his “rational” the more I feel a need not to ignore but actually to laugh. When some people without a sense of perspective or reality run in stadium then they might feel that they are ahe...

audiofilofine, you need to form a question in a format that would indicate you do the your do some homework. To bulb or even to design 20Hz horn is complex task and it usually made to the specifics of the given circumstances. As rule to use properly ...

I am more and more inclining to finish my horn in the textured paint of the color of my room. However, lately I have another “idee fixe”. My listening room has a very pleasant light pattern, something that was here before and something that I added. ...

Hi Romy…and fellow audio nutters. I’ve bitten the bullet, and shifted from BLH to front-loaded. Yes, I was an idiot, a moron for not doing this sooner. My project is ‘humble’ by Romy’s standard…but I feel it meets the following objectives I h...

I am NOT talking about single wideband drivers or any back loaded type horns. I am talking about properly made front loaded horns.
For example, the Danley Synergy horns, that use single horn with multiple drivers to cover a wide band...

Attila from Hungary send me emails telling that he got CNC lathe, carver and the rest of gear and that he is very much willing to make horns. He asked: “I would like to ask your opinion, what type of horns people most need”. I find it is interesting...

Outdoor performances always seem to me to fall short of indoor ones, and there are plenty of reasons why this should be so, but there is something attractive about a horn installation in a garden...it ought really to be made of rock, of course, f...

Yes, the subject of the post is very accurate description of the sound that we have in that video. It is not surprise to me as know many of those fools spreading vintage paranoia and this is very frequently the sound they end up with. There are reaso...

actually I'm from Iran and needless to say we are stock in the middle of nowhere here (sanctions,...) so we weren't able to hear much of the horn speakers, so we started to think we should do it ourselves because we are able to obtain CDs much easier...

You said are lucky to get hornloading down to 150Hz. Then I guess you suggest you will end up at maybe 175Hz. Hornloading a compression driver down to 175Hz is not too difficult and the horn will not be larger than the Avantgarde Trio midbass horn, a...

Romy, Is there a consistent effect from too large/too small and how is it analyzed? Working on a new horn that I had turned by a fellow in Hungary and have made my back chamber so that I can easily manipulate the volume but have no idea of what to e...

Tonight I finished two
horns at once. One was a shortened Goto S-150 horn that now has a
Fane S 8M, without back chamber so far. Dimensions are now 1.1m deep, 11cm throat, 75cm mouth. It is replacing the Avantgarde
Trio midbass horn r...
